Apperture - Use the apperture to dictate the amount of light reaching the film and control image brightness.  The sixe of the apperture also affects the amount of the scene that will be recorded in sharp focus.  The zone of sharpness extending both in front of and behind the part of the subject you focused on is known as the "depth of field". use a wide apperture setting to soften distracting or ugly background detail The smaller the apperture setting, the deeper the depth of field. The size of the apperture is indicated by F-stops, which are often displayed on the barrel of the lens. The larger the F-stop, the smaller the lens apperture.
